Lake Lewisville Water Levels & Temp.Lake Lewisville is a 29,592-acre lake which is located on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, near Lewisville just north of Dallas off Interstate 35E. Lake Lewisville reaches a depth of 67 feet at normal elevation and has generally murky water clarity with the water level fluctuation anywhere from 4 to 8 feet annually in normal years. Average depth of Lake Lewisville is about 25 feet deep at normal elevation. Currently, Lake Lewisville's water temperature is ranging from 68 degrees in the deeper waters to about 74 degrees as the surface temperature.

Fish caught in Lake Lewisville include large-mouth bass, white bass, white crappie, hybrid and striped bass, and blue and channel catfish. White crappie and white bass provide the most angling activity on Lake Lewisville. Largemouth Lake Lewisville Spillway - July 2007 bass, the most popular fish in Texas, is also popular at Lewisville. Hybrid striped bass have been stocked and provide anglers with another open water sport fishing. The blue and channel catfish fishing are also excellent.

 The US Army Corps of Engineers is Lake Lewisville's controlling authority. Several parks on Lake Lewisville provide campgrounds, beaches, picnic areas, and boat ramps.  See below for more information on camping at Lake Lewisville. Lake Lewisville is surrounded by 9,000 protected acres of nature and has about 230 miles of shoreline.  Lake Lewisville was impounded in 1954.  Lake Dallas was the original lake which was built in 1929 by the City of Dallas for it's main water source. In 1954, a new dam was completed by the Army Corp of Engineers and the Lake was called Garza-Little Elm Reservoir.  The new reservoir, popularly called Garza-Little Elm Lake, incorporated the older and smaller Lake Dallas on October 28, 1957, when the old Garza Dam was destroyed. The name change was debated for years, and in the mid 70's, the names Lake Dallas and Garza-Little Elm were dropped in favor of calling the Lake, Lake Lewisville.  One might say the lake is more than 77 years old.  When out boating, you can still see the old dam for which the City of Dallas had built which in turn will give you an idea of the size of the old lake verses the new lake.  On the map below, the old Lake Dallas dam is just to the left of the words "Lake Lewisville".
