The
adult Bullmastiff weights in at 110 to 130 pounds with females about
10 pounds less; the adult male can stand 25 to 27 inches, females an
inch less. The Bullmastiff is a powerfully built, sizable yet
compact animal, he possesses a large and broad head, with some
wrinkles, a keen expression, strong foreface and a broad, deep
muzzle; stop moderate; forehead flat. The neck is thick,
nearly equal in circumference to the skull. Topline must be
level; wide and deep chest; short back. The tail is set on
high and is straight or curved, but not carried like a hound.
The quarters assembly is made for driving, free action; shoulders
not loaded, never cow-hocked, forelegs straight, elbows not in or
out; good angulation. The coat is short and dense and colored
in red, fawn, or brindle; white mark permitted on chest only.
Bred as a guard dog,
the Bullmastiff, for his 130 pounds of sheer muscle, should daunt
any intruder's intentions. They love their families and
despite their size adore being indoors, where they are at home and
relaxed with the family. The Bullmastiff will bond closely
with the whole family and guard each member with his life, including
the family cat and pot belied pig. He is fearless yet docile,
and well bred representatives are both alert and agile, enjoying
exercise time with family members. Most dogs are dominant to
unknown dogs and not sociable to strangers unless introduced by a
familiar person.
