"A lot of dog in a little body
best describes the Miniature Pinscher. The minpins originated in Germany and was used as a
ratter and a mouser. He is usually mistaken for a smaller version of the Doberman
pinscher, although they look alike, the Miniature Pinscher are a much older breed. They
were recognized as an official breed in Germany in 1880. On March 31st 1925 the
American Kennel Club accepted the Miniature pinscher for registration, by 1929 the
Miniature Pinscher Club was recognized and they were entitled to compete for
championships. They were fist shown in the Terrier group, then in 1930 reclassified and
shown in the Toy group known as Pinschers (miniature), then in 1972 they were officially
named Miniature Pinscher, and have produce many champions in there group.
The minpin
has a smooth coat and comes in three colors, red, stag red (intermingling black hairs),
black & rust and black & tan and Chocolate and rust. They are 8 inches to 15
inches (show 10 to 12 ˝ inches), and weigh between 5 and 15 pounds.
Minpins are wonderful watchdogs. They are fearless, self-possession, spirited, stylish,
and saucy, with a proud carriage and a regal gait, which has earned him the nickname
King Of Toys.
The minpin is a low maintained dog, a once a week brushing and a once a month bath is
about all they need. They have very few health problems, if taken care of properly they
will live to give you many years of happiness.
