Salukis
are one of the oldest known breeds of gaze-hounds. They are diverse in appearance with the
smooth dogs and the feathered dogs. But both types have great stamina, agility and keen
eyesight and a very strong hunting urge.
Colors vary in salukis from black and tan to
silver and even a party color. The feathered salukis have long lovely ears and feathered
tails with some feathering on the backs of their front and back legs. The smooth variety
are without this embellishment. The expression is very dignified
and gentle but with a
far-seeing look. The height of the salukis is approximately around 28 inches for dogs and
less for bitches.
ASFA (American Sighthound Field Association)
offers coursing for all sighthounds and salukis enjoy this game of chasing. Now there is
the opportunity to race the salukis on the oval track and a straight track all for
championship points. They have been racing in Europe for years. So here is another
opportunity to let your saluki enjoy what he likes - and that is to run and chase.
