Whippets are a nice medium
sized dogs which weight between 21 and 45 pounds. They are usually long lived giving the
owner many years of companionship. Their short coat makes them easy to care for in
the house since it is very close to the body and naturally repels dirt.
The whippets temperament
is outgoing and dedicated
and because of their stable temperament they make great family dogs. They are not an old
breed but rather a combination of breeding which produced a poor mans greyhound for racing
in England in the 1800's. Today the whippet is very popular in the show ring as well as in
many sporting and performance events such as racing, fly ball, and agility. Since they love
to please and are very fast some of these timed events are very suited for these great
dogs who thrive on running.
Whippets come in many colors including, black,
white, blue, brindle, fawn and red - some have black masks and some are part
colored with
big spots of color on their body. At Windyglen our focus is mainly breeding
performance and racing whippets with great temperaments. We enjoy seeing the whippets
racing full stride with other whippets.
